(POLL CLOSED)
Part of the changes that I am thinking of for DHS is switching from .mp3 to .rm (Real Media Audio) files. There are cons and pros for both formats.
MP3 is the most popular and widely used format, the main reason being the wide range of portable mp3 players owned by everyone; besides mp3 files are relatively small in size (compared to .wav which popular before .mp3s came about). However, there is the hosting problem. So far I have managed to upload most files on free hosting servers which all have certain limitations. They don't allow very fast download speeds, plus there is always the monthly bandwidth limit. Each account of such servers gives the user a certain amount of space (500 mbs in case of FileDen.com). So far I have created 7 accounts out of which two have run out of bandwith on a couple of occassions. Bandwidth limit is refreshed/reset at the end of every month. There is also the times spent uploading the files.
RM files are used mainly for streaming audio online. It is used by popular websites like Raaga.com and Smashits.com plus some unpopular ones. They are alot smaller than mp3 files, and there is no problem with hosting as there are sources all over the internet that I can link to. BUT the problem with these file format is that it is not usable with the mp3 players. You will need to convert them to mp3 or any other required format. However, if you listen to songs on your computer only, than this is the better choice; small and takes less time to download.
SO please take the time to vote for your desired format in the above poll (if you can't see that, vote on the poll on the left). Thank You.
